A Few Suggestions for Interesting Things to Do in Kennebunkport

The Perfect Beach Day

On a sunny day, pick up some of our beach chairs and an umbrella and head to Parson’s Beach. You can take one our small coolers with ice for drinks. Take some of our beach toys if you have kids. Leave in the late morning and stop at Bennett’s Sandwich Shop on the way to pick up some sandwiches and cold drinks. Be sure to order on line before you arrive as the lines there are often long, but those that order on line or by phone get in and out relatively quickly. When you get to Parson’s Beach you may have to wait 5 to 15 minutes for a parking spot but it’ll be worth it.

Afternoon Drinks

Late in the afternoon take bikes we provide our guests and bike down to the Colony Hotel. Get some cocktails on the terrace overlooking their pool and the ocean.

Bike into town and dine at the Hurricane Restaurant. If the line for regular seating is long, skip the main dining room and dine in the bar area. Usually, you can get a seat in the bar in 10 minutes. If you like onion soup, try theirs. It is the best in the world. Skip desert. When you leave the restaurant turn left, walk 300 feet to the ice cream shop and get your desert there. Bike back to Bass Cove Point before sunset. If it is dusk, stay on sidewalks for your safety but be careful of others.

Buy a good bottle of wine at Maine & Vine. Get down to the front of our cottage near our dock overlooking Bass Cove a half hour before sunset. Relax on the lawn furniture. After the sun goes down and the stars appear, it is a safe 5-minute walk back to your apartment. No need for a “designated driver.”

For The Early Riser

Get up early. Walk or bike to town and get freshly made chocolate croissants and hot coffee or tea (or best of all- hot chocolate) at Mornings in Paris. Walk quietly around town and enjoy the solitude as you watch the town slowly awake. On your way back to Bass Cove Point, stop by at our local library, so you know what you might like to read next time you visit.

Live Music

Check the schedule of the live music events. Our special favorites are the mid-week live music concerts sponsored by the Kennebunkport Historical Society. The music venue is a one minute drive north of Bass Cove Point, in an old school house. World class music for a few dollars. You must, however, arrive at least 30 minutes before starting time. This venue always sells out. It is a local favorite. Most visitors never know it is there.

Another great music venue is Vinegar Hill. Enjoy great live music in an old restored barn. Arrive 45 minutes early to enjoy drinks in their adjacent gardens. This is another local gem most visitors never hear of.

Book A Sail

Book a sailing excursion on the Schooner Eleanor

Enjoy these and other “off-the-beaten-path” experiences that are different, unique and quintessential coastal Maine.
