About Bass Cove Point
Bass Cove Point is the home of Jan ONeill and Richard Batt. Built in 2025 on the Bass Cove peninsula, the main house and adjacent guest apartment are located on a tributary of the Kennebunk River in Kennebunkport, Maine. The four-acre estate includes a majestic towering pine forest behind the house, a riverside dock, several serene picnic areas, and timeless panoramic views of Bass Cove and the Cape Arundel Golf Club Course.
The historic property originally housed an 1880s farmhouse and barn. In addition to serving as farmland and brick manufacturing, traditional masts and rigging for schooners (sailing ships with fore-and-aft rigging on two or more masts) were constructed on Bass Cove. Once the ships were complete, the boats would float down the Kennebunk River and into the ocean. A nearby wooden boat-building school continues these traditions today.
Together with its rich origins, Bass Cove Point has always represented more than just a house or property. It embodies a way of life - nurturing, easygoing, and welcoming. Breathtaking scenery coupled with elegantly flowing streams surrounds you with tranquility. The comforting hospitality of traditional New England furnishings provides the perfect ambiance for you and your family to entertain in a private, relaxed home away from home.
About Us
Meet Jan ONeill and Richard Batt. It was a long-time dream of Jan to build a beautiful home on the property she and her late husband bought thirty years ago, adjacent to Bass Cove Farm, their summer home. The property holds deep sentimental value and lovely memories, as Jan’s youngest daughter was married there. Seeing the dream come to life in Bass Cove Point has been fulfilling and honoring for both Jan and Rick, whose relationship began in 2023.
Jan has two daughters and Rick has three daughters. They are very close to their children and cherish frequent family gatherings. Their love for family was a driving force behind Jan and Rick’s decision to build a two-family dwelling. Both the main house and apartment are configured for comfortable living. The large kitchens, living spaces, multiple decks and patios, and outdoor lounge areas make for seamless, relaxed entertaining.
From skiing to art museums, gardening to dancing, Jan and Rick are always up for a new experience. Both long-time sailors and mariners, they are no strangers to the joys and excitement of the outdoors. Jan has a knack for decorating and restoring furniture, while Rick enjoys all things train-related. Often traveling by train, Jan and Rick are never far from their next adventure. From their family to yours, Bass Cove Point will always be a place to call home.
